9 Frequently Asked Questions — Cranial Orthosis

The questions parents ask most, answered by our specialists: age, duration, sleep, insurance and more.

At what age should treatment start?

The ideal time is 4–6 months. At this age the skull is soft enough and responds quickly. Treatment can still be successful up to 12 months; after that it becomes more difficult.

How long is the helmet worn?

23 hours a day (including sleep; it is only taken off for bathing). Total treatment takes 3–6 months on average, depending on the severity of the deformity.

Will my baby be uncomfortable?

There is an adjustment period of the first 3–5 days. After that, babies don't even notice the helmet — it is designed to be lightweight and pressure-free.

Is it worn during sleep?

Yes, it is worn while sleeping. In fact, this prevents the pressure caused by sleeping position.

Does health insurance cover it?

Some private insurance plans cover cranial orthoses. SGK (Turkish Social Security) does not currently cover it. We provide invoices and medical reports to support your claim.

What is the price range?

Because every baby's head shape is different, the price varies. After the assessment, we give you clear, personalized information.

How many cities do you serve?

We have clinics in 5 cities plus a mobile assessment service. You can find details on our Clinics page.

My baby has started walking — is it too late?

After 18 months it is more difficult, but not necessarily too late. Come in for an assessment — our specialist will create a plan tailored to your baby.

Can it irritate the skin?

The helmet is made from hypoallergenic materials. Irritation is rare and mostly caused by sweating in the first week — it can be prevented with regular cleaning and a proper fit.
